It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I thought I’d post an update.

Things are progressing better than expected, I’ve added quite a few songs to the repitoire and have even begun composing some original music (not as impressive as it’s sounds, I just love the word compose). Purple Haze, Iron Man, All Apologies, Smells Like Teen Spirit are part of my song list now. Godzilla and Sunshine of Your Love are both in various stages of completion. Having issues with the solo sections on both (go figure, Clapton actually knows what he’s doing) but I’ve got the rhythem and chorus down pat on both.

So I’ve been playing for around 7 weeks as of right now. I’m pleased with my progress since it is 99.99% self taught using videos/tabs from the internet. Who knew the internet was actually good for something besides porn!?

Thus far, I’ve been working the basic chord patterns, scales (12 bar blues, minor & major), a few licks and a couple of songs (Sweet Melissa by the Allman Brothers, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, Blackbird by the Beatles). Vguitarlessons.com has been instrumental in the process. There are 12 free videos that cover all of the basics and some slightly more advanced techniques. The guy is genuinely excited to teach, and is very thorough when explaining things without sounding condescending or taking certain steps for granted. This is a must use resource for any beginners or anyone looking to brush up on the basics.

Things have slowed down a bit, as I’m waiting for my fingers to heal, the tips are raw and sensative and unable to hold down some of the longer chords I’ve been practicing. I’m going to take a day or two off to let them heal back up so that Thursday when David comes over I’ll be good to go for rounds 3 and 4.
